CAS September 13 - Dinner and A Suit

If you are looking for some catchy tunes and a good time to start your weekend off right, look no further than The High Watt this Friday night. Cause A Scene is bringing you another night full of exceptional talent and music at what is fast becoming one of our favorite venues. Headlining the evening is band that has a lot of history with Cause A Scene. Dinner and a Suit are a Nashville-based pop rock-band that just so happened to play the first ever CAS bill back in early 2012, so we mean it when we say we are thrilled to welcome them back to the CAS stage. Guitarists, vocalists and cousins Jonathan Capeci and Joey Beretta began writing music together in New Jersey in 2008, laying the framework for what would quickly become Dinner and a Suit. With the addition of bassist and friend Anthony Genca, the band recorded their first album Light And Lungs later that year. In the years since the band has relocated to Nashville and one full-length album and two EPs later the band has developed a devout fan base and carved a name for themselves in the music world, earning multiple mentions from MTV and mtvU. Following the release of their most recent EP, Too Late, Dinner and a Suit is currently touring, making several stops across the greater US.

Joining Dinner and a Suit at The High Watt is another band who calls Music City home, Oaklynn. Comprised of two sets of brothers, Josh and Seth Smith, and Tripp and Tate Howell, this indie-pop outfit was formed in early 2010. In the time since, the bands has been writing and recording their first record. Self-titled, their five track EP was released earlier this year.

Also on the bill this Friday comes to us from far across the Atlantic in North London. Wild Sun are an eclectic, indie quartet who capture a unique sound, harnessing tropical themes that are propelled by catchy guitar riffs and tight rhythms. The band released their EP, Favor, earlier this year. Topping off the evening’s lineup is the local band, Lanco.

So come hang with all of your CAS pals down at The High Watt this Friday, for what is sure to be a night full of great sounds. Get your tickets here for $10. Doors open at 8:00 PM and the show starts at 9:00 PM.

CAS September 11 - Vickie Vaughn

Come on out for some good ol’ Cause A Scene fun this Wednesday at what is becoming one of our favorite venues in town, The Basement. The evenings bill is full of acts both local and from afar who dwell deep in the bluegrass and Americana genres. The Vickie Vaughn Band are a quintet based out of Music City, complete with a banjo, fiddle and mandolin, who are sure to get the crowd stomping on this September evening. This group is comprised of five incredibly talented and dedicated musicians who have worked to form a sound that is self-described as “a unique brand of Bluegrass that blends tradition with youthful funk and energy.”

Filling out the set and keeping the air rich with the sounds of country and folk music, are two more Nashville-based acts; Johnny Appleseed and Cale Tyson. Johnny Appleseed are a seven piece who’s unique sound is rooted in country but characterized with a contemporary flair. We were fortunate enough have Johnny Appleseed play our Christmas show last year and we are stoked to have them back for a second run. Originally from Fort Worth, TX, Cale Tyson brings the grit and somberness found in old school country to the table. It would only make sense that this singer-songwriter would find his way to Nashville, where he cut his latest EP, High On Lonesome. Released less than two months ago, High On Lonesome was featured on American Songwriter. You can read the full article here.

Opening up the evening is the St. Louis, MO-based outfit, Jack Grelle and the Johnson Family Band. With their most recent full-length album, Jack Grelle and the Johnson Family out in November of last year, this group of Missourians will certainly be the perfect cap on a fantastic lineup of talent.

So get yourself down to The Basement on 8th Avenue South to see some of the best music this city has to offer. Doors open at 8:00 PM and the show starts at 9:00 PM. Tickets are $5 at the door.

CAS September 7 - Party to Provide (P2P)

If you are looking for the best party in town this weekend while also benefiting a great cause, then you are going to want to get your ass down to the East-Centric Pavilion this Saturday night. Cause A Scene is partnering with Jackalope Brewing Company and Lightning 100 to bring you an evening full of great music and the best tasting beer in town. We at Cause A Scene are honored to be a part of the first Party to Provide (or P2P), an annual party and concert created by the headlining act of the evening, VITEK, which will benefit a different local charity each year. All proceeds of the first P2P will benefit Mental Health America of Middle Tennessee, a non-profit organization that has been providing services to the Middle Tennessee community for over 66 years. If that and the lineup of music we have in store you aren’t enough to get your blood pumping, each 21+ attendee will receive two free Jackalope pints and several local area food trucks will also be on sight to make the party that much better!

Headlining the evening’s stellar bill are the masterminds behind this wonderful event, our good friends VITEK. VITEK are a Nashville-based band with a catchy electro-pop sound that will get the party groovin’ this Saturday night. The band played their first CAS show back in May at The Basement and we at CAS have been aching to work with them again ever since. We could not have hoped for a better opportunity! VITEK is quickly infecting the greater Nashville populous with foot-tapping beats and entrancing melodies and are sure to put on one heck of a party.

Two more Cause A Scene vets will be joining VITEK in the evening’s lineup, Casa Castile and Pocono. Both bands are also based in Nashville and while aesthetically very different, both bands perform with a pop-rock sound that is within the same vein as VITEK’s music.

Also on deck for the event’s long list of talent are another band the calls Music City home, Summer Buttons, and ambient-folk duo, And the Giraffe. Touring the Southeast in promotion of their latest EP, Creature Collector, I think we here at CAS speak for all parties involved when we say we are proud to have this Gainesville, FL-based based band here in Nashville to play alongside a fantastic group of performers, all playing for such a great cause.

This party is starting early, but that doesn’t mean it’s ending early. The East-Centric doors open at 5:00 PM and the festivities start at 6:00 PM. Tickets are $5 at the door.

CAS September 6 - Lowland Hum - Web

Kick your weekend off in style this Friday and head on down to the west side of town for a superb lineup of folk musicians both local and on a tour stop through Nashville. We at Cause A Scene are excited to be hosting our second show at The Stone Fox, one of the hottest new local gems at which to see live music, located on the northern edge of Sylvan Park.

Lowland Hum are Daniel and Lauren Goans, a husband and wife duo formed in Greensboro, NC who have been traveling the country playing numerous house shows and other creative venues, honing their craft and sharing their gifts with all who care to listen. While the duo’s talents lie mainly in the realm of writing and performing folk music, they have also incorporated visual art elements into their performances, using hand-bound lyric books and oil burners to draw the audience in for what culminates to an incredibly intimate and interactive experience. Between their unique live performances and the release of their first full-length album, Native Air, earlier this year, Lowland Hum has begun to garner rapid and wide reception, from both casual music lovers and in the press, having been featured in The Washington Post, American Songwriter and NPR’s “First Watch”, all in the last several weeks.

Filling out the set for the evening are three talented folk singer-songwriter acts, all of which now call Nashville home. Originally from Connecticut, Caleb Groh, makes his second CAS appearance of the summer this weekend. Only writing and performing as a solo act for less than two years, Groh has turned heads and accumulated a devoted fan base, having recorded both an EP and a full-length album entitled Bottomless Coffee, which he released last year. Also earning a Boston Music Award for Folk Artist of the year in 2012, we are pumped to be welcoming Groh back to the CAS stage.

Born of musicians and growing up on a farm just south of Nashville, Heidi Feek was bred with the sort of innate ability that we seek out a Cause A Scene. With a sound that seamlessly blends the lyrical and narrative structure of the country classics she was raised on and the pop influences of her adolescence, Feek is sure to fit right in this Friday. Heidi Feek is currently in the process of finishing the follow-up album to her 2010 EP, Eden, which is due to release in the coming months.

Also a Nashville native, Casey Black will round out the evening’s lineup. Recently having moved back Nashville, Black has completed a bit of an Odyssey in his musical and personal life. The son of NSAI Hall of Fame country-songwriter Charlie Black, Casey quickly followed in his father’s footsteps, signing with EMI Music Publishing Nashville at 19, making him one of the youngest staff songwriters on Music Row. In his time with EMI however, Black lost his musical inspiration and drive and eventually left EMI and Music City. In the years that followed Black moved to Los Angeles where he continued to write and record and in time ended up in New York where he obtained his degree at Columbia University. It was in his time in NYC that Casey Black rediscovered his muse when he stumbled upon Brooklyn’s Big City Folk scene. Full of new found inspiration and a new and honest approach to songwriting, he made his way back to his hometown of Nashville, drawing his near ten years of soul searching to a close. In his time back in Nashville, Black has immersed himself back into his music, and now finds himself fresh off the release of his fourth studio record, Lay You In The Loam, which dropped just this past June. With a sound as deep and rich as his personal saga, Black is poised to put on one hell of a show.

So cancel whatever plans you may have for this Friday, because this show is going to knock your freaking socks off. Doors open at 8:30 PM and the music starts at 9:00 PM at The Stone Fox located at 712 51st Avenue North. Get your tickets here for $5 in advance. Tickets will be $8 DOS.

CAS September 4 - Whistles Bells - Web

Cause A Scene takes it back to Cannery Row for the second time this week, this Wednesday, this time at The High Watt. This particular show in one that I personally have been anticipating for some time now, as the lineup for the evening showcases three exceptional talents from all over the Southeast, all of which are either CAS vets or bands we have been yearning to work with for some time now. Headlining the evening and making their live debut will be The Whistles & The Bells, the new project of Bryan Simpson, former lead singer of the accomplished bluegrass band, Cadillac Sky. Nearly two years in the making, The Whistles & The Bells is Simpson’s first effort since his departure from Cadillac Sky nearly three years ago. With such a long hiatus and so much buzz building around whispers of Simpson’s new project over the last couple of years; we could not be more excited or more honored to be a part of his first performance as The Whistles & The Bells. And if that’s not enough, the new band will be joined by some very prominent surprise vocal talents from around Music City, to make the night even more memorable.

The excitement does not end there. Dallas, TX band, Air Review, will also be making both their CAS and Nashville debut. Following the release of their sophomore album, Low Wishes, earlier this year, I was fortunate to catch up with Richard Carpenter, who plays keys for the band, in an interview that was featured right here on causeascenemusic.com. Having yet to play here in Nashville, we at CAS have been hoping the band would make a stop through our fair city as they have been heavily touring the greater U.S. for the better part of this year and we are amped that they chose to work with us in doing so.

Playing first in the evening’s lineup is an extremely talented and promising group of musicians from Charleston, SC. The indie-rock band Brave Baby played their first Cause A Scene show earlier this summer alongside Radiation City and Nashville locals Commitment Bells. At that show they played a set that is burned in my mind as one of my favorite CAS performances to date. Their full-length album, Forty Bells has not left my car’s CD player for some time now and I cannot wait to see these guys a second time around.

With a lineup chocked full of rousing first and return appearances, trust me when I say that you do not want be anywhere else in Nashville besides The High Watt, down on Cannery Row this Wednesday night. Secure your spot and get your tickets here for $8, as we expect this one to fill up fast! Doors open at 7:00 PM and the music starts at 8:00 PM.
