CAS November 17 - My Red and Blue

This Sunday evening we will be presenting our last show at The High Watt, which has housed many fantastic memories for us at Cause A Scene this year, as we celebrate the release of My Red & Blue‘s new EP, The Start. My Red & Blue is the new project of local singer songwriter Ben Eggebrecht, a Nashville transplant by way of Milwaukee, WI and The Start is his second record and the finished product of material he has been writing, financing and recording for well over a year. We at CAS are beyond honored to be presenting the fruits of Eggebrecht’s hard work as he performs the EP in its entirety, live for the first time. My Red & Blue boasts a pop-rock sound that draws influence from both the free-spiritedness the West Coast and the wholesome traditions laden in the Tennessee hills, yielding an identity that is perfectly encapsulated in “Never Gonna Be Mine,” the single off his forthcoming EP that debuted on Buzzfeed earlier this week.

Opening up for My Red & Blue is Nashville native and folk-pop singer songwriter, Liza Anne. No stranger to the Nashville music scene, Liza has already played her fair share of CAS bills, opening for Judah and the Lion and Matthew Perryman Jones. She is currently working on her debut full-length record, The Colder Months, which is set to release early next year. If you like what you hear this Sunday, you can help her bring her first record to life by contributing to her Kickstarter campaign. With only 9 days left she is within arms length of her goal.

Also opening up the evening is newly transplanted Nashvillian pop-rocker, Jordan Gable. This being the Ohioans first Nashville show, we are excited to hear what he has in store for our ears.

Cap off what is sure to be a beautiful fall weekend and head on down to Cannery Row this Sunday to hear some rockin’ tunes and see some of the best up and coming talent this city has to offer. Get your tickets here for $8 in advance. Tickets will also be available for $10 DOS. Doors open at 7:00 PM and the music starts at 8:00 PM.

Joining the likes of Tennis, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats and On An On at Nashville’s Communion showcase this Thursday at Mercy Lounge is VITEK, a local Nashville band who has begun to drum up significant buzz, both within the confines of the Music City scene and far beyond. Possessing a fun and upbeat electro-pop sound, VITEK infuses saxophones, rock ‘ roll riffs and hints of funk that give the band a unique musical identity that is truly their own.

VITEK are also great friends of ours here at Cause A Scene. We were fortunate enough to present the release show for their single “Sunbird” at The Basement this past May, which drew a packed house and also assisted in presenting the first Party 2 Provide, an annual benefit concert at the East Centric Pavilion that they founded and headlined. The proceeds of the first P2P this year went to Mental Health America of Tennessee, featured four other talented bands and was vastly successful The band has also recently been featured as Lightning 100’s “Local Artist of the Week.”

VITEK is currently in the studio, working on a new full-length album that is scheduled to release in 2014. With a live presence that emits a hypnotic and entrancing energy that will get you groovin’, VITEK will certainly set a precedent at Mercy Lounge tomorrow night.

This Wednesday we head back to one of our favorite venues to see live music in this fair city, The Basement, and we’d love for you to take a short breather from your busy week and join us. The lead act of the evening is Nashville-based Americana folk outfit, Cassino. Originally formed in 2005 by childhood friends and former members of the Alabama-based rock band, Northstar, Nick Torres and Tyler Odom, Cassino is a project that has morphed and transitioned through several different stages and identities. In 2006 the duo began recording their first album, Sounds of Salvation, with producer Craig Krampf in Nashville. Cassino spent the following couple years touring heavily in support of their debut record, until 2008 when they began the process of writing a follow-up album in 2008. It was during this process that Odom left the project and Torres began to seek out a new creative direction for Cassino. He found what he was searching for in longtime friend Edward Puckett, who often played bass on earlier Cassino tours.

The two musicians spent much of the following year writing and recording the new album, again in Nashville, but this time primarily out of a small apartment. The album would come to be titled, Kingprince, and was released in 2009. In 2011 they put out an EP entitled, The Weight of Bother, which contained several unreleased versions of songs from Kingprince. Cassino has spent much of their time the last couple of years touring the country, and is now currently working on a new album comprised of songs based from of wealth of new inspiration.

Sharing The Basement stage with Cassino Wednesday night is the indie folk quartet, Darlingside. Hailing from Cambridge, MA, this foursome, delivers a distinct and colorful live performance that has captivated audiences across the country, in which they belt harmonies huddled around a single microphone and swap and series of instruments which include guitars, mandolins, fiddles and a plethora of percussion instruments from song to song. The band released their first full-length record, Pilot Machines, on which they were successful in encompassing the same spirit and energy that they bring to all their live shows.

Opening up the show for the evening is another Massachusetts-based musician, singer songwriter Heather Maloney. Although she only began writing songs a few years ago, Maloney has put her career and reputation on the fast track towards success releasing three albums, and quickly developing a devout fan base. Her most recent album, which was self-titled and released this last spring, perfectly displays her soulful, folk influenced sound and has received critical praise from the likes of The Huffington Post.

Don’t miss out on another night of good tunes with the CAS crew at The Basement on 8th Avenue South. Tickets will be $5 at the doors. Music starts at 9:00 PM.

November 9 Show

What better way to prepare for the forthcoming holiday season than to kick back with the Cause A Scene crew for another night full of some of the best rising talent from all across the country. This Saturday we return to Edgehill Cafe, one of our new favorite spots to showcase new great music.Poema, comprised of sisters Elle and Shealeen Louise Puckett will headline the evening. Now based in Nashville, this sister duo grew up in Albuquerque, NM, where music was always a dominant presence in their tight-knit family. The chemistry between this duo is one that can only be found in the bond between siblings, and it is evident in each note and lyric of their music. Poema’s sound is rooted in classic country, paying tribute to the likes of Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn, and peppered with hints of acoustic folk and pop, giving way to a musical identity that is truly wonderful and unique. Since moving to Nashville, Poema has spent the last several years writing and touring. They have released multiple EPs and in 2012 the duo released their first full-length album, Remembering You.

Returning for what will be his second CAS appearance is Chicago-based singer songwriter Cameron McGill. Writing and recording songs since the late 90’s, McGill has played in a number of different bands and released multiple solo records in the early 2000’s. The past several years of McGill’s career have been devoted to his most recent band, Cameron McGill & What Army, who released their last album in 2011. In the last two years however, McGill has focused his efforts once again on his solo material, releasing his most recent album, Gallows Etiquette earlier this year.

Also on the night’s bill is another duo, this time of the mixed gender variety. With a sound that has been compared to The Civil Wars, the folk duo The Bird and the Bear is the culmination of singer songwriters Mirthe Bolhuis, who hails from The Netherlands and Wyoming native Garry Wood. The two met here in Nashville in 2011, where a musical and personal relationship was quickly formed. The duo quickly began writing together and soon after recorded their debut EP “Breathe” in early 2012 at Prime Cut Studio in East Nashville, under the name of The Bird and the Bear.

Completing the evening’s lineup are two other artists who are sure to put on one hell of a show. Mel Washington, the soulful troubadour and former member of All Get Out, and Indianapolis-based singer songwriter and current Belmont student Kel will certainly add to the excitement and make this Saturday an evening you will not want to miss. Get your tickets here for $5 in advance, as space is limited. Doors open at 7:00 PM with the music soon to follow.

david ramirez

Join us out at The High Watt this Saturday night as we begin our wrap up on 2013 as we enter our final stretch of shows this month, with two highly anticipated artists who we greatly admire here at Cause A Scene. Headlining the evening is CAS vet, David Ramirez, who played a sold out show to a packed house of eager listeners and music junkies back in February of this year.

Since an early age, Ramirez has himself in music. Inspired by the 90’s alt rock of his youth, later to derive artistic influence from the likes of Bob Dylan, Ryan Adam, The National and Arcade Fire, all of Ramirez’s musical influences have made their own personal mark on David as he has carefully cultivated his craft. Ramirez’s sound, an artful blend of traditional folk and contemporary indie-rock, bridges the generational gap, building himself a name and reputation that is rapidly spreading beyond his Southeast home base.

An Austin native, Ramirez has spent the last several years touring across the country and writing and recording 2 full-length albums and 3 EPs, building a devout loyal fan base. In 2012 he played over 175 shows, many of which were apart of his co-headline tour with fellow CAS alum, Noah Gundersen. 2012 continued to be a good year for David as his independently released full-length album, Apologies, debuted at #2 on iTunes Singer-Songwriter charts and #23 on Billboard Folk, and received praise from The New York Times, American Songwriter and PASTE. 2013 has proved to be just as successful year for Ramirez as 2012, with the release of his most recent EP, The Rooster, this past May. He is currently capping off the back on the road, and we are thrilled he chose to his Nashville stop a CAS show.

Opening for Ramirez, is a Nashville resident who embodies the image of what it means to be a strong woman in a modern world through her songs. Though she is only 22, Logan Brill demonstrates wisdom and poise in her songwriting that echos the soul of an artist far more seasoned. Her debut full-length album, Walking Wires, which released this year, is a true testament to what this young artist has planned for her listeners and herself as an artist. Brill is currently touring the north/south expanse of the east coast, her voice reaching more and more ears as she goes.

This Saturday is going to be a night full of the city’s best talent that you will not want to miss. The High Watt on Cannery Row is sure to fill up quickly to see these 2 spectacular talents, so secure your spot ahead of time and get your tickets here. Doors will open at 8:00 PM and the show will start at 9:00 PM.
