ixora

I don’t know about you, but I was slightly devastated in 2009 when Copeland announced their break-up. Their first album, Beneath the Medicine Tree, changed my musical pallet my senior year of high school, and each album after that continued to do the same. In slight disbelief, I bought tickets to their farewell tour and hoped they would change their minds.

After almost exactly four years of silence (their final show was April 10, 2010), there was news – on April Fool’s Day, social media revealed they would be reuniting for a fifth album. Conversations with friends all day revolved around this topic: was this a cruel prank or a poorly timed announcement? Luckily for their fans, it’s the latter.

As of April 1st, the band has released the song and video for “Ordinary”, which will be feature on their upcoming reunion album, Ixora, on theirwebsite. Text in the midst of the music video is where the official announcement lives: “We have reunited to make the 5th Copeland album. This will be our first new music in 6 years. Thank you for your support through the years.”

Another note of gratitude to the fans is noted on their website, “The encouraging messages and requests for a new album never stopped after our farewell tour in 2010. We are extremely honored by this and hope you love what we create.”

Unlike their previous albums, this record will be made independent of a label – therefore the funding from the album is coming directly from the pre-orders made on the website. This is essentially a crowd-funding project without the title – but with such a dedicated fan base (who have been anticipating a reunion for years), I have no doubt they’ll be extremely successful in this endeavor.

I’m very much looking forward to more eerie melodies and beautiful piano tunes, which “Ordinary” is already boasting. Even more so, I’m excited to see how these talented musicians have been influenced in the last four years, and plan on wowing us all once again.

The band anticipates Ixora will be released in October.

There are a handful of artists that immediately jump to the top of my personal “must listen” list, and Jack White is certainly at the top of that list, as I am sure is the same for any rock n’ roll loving American. Naturally my heart skipped a beat when White debuted the first sample of his forthcoming sophomore solo effort, Lazaretto. The track, titled “High Ball Stepper,” is an instrumental track ripe with expected wailing guitars and subdued piano interludes.

Following his 2012 debut solo record Blunderbuss; Lazaretto is due to release June 10th via White’s own Third Man Records and Columbia. You can pre-order a limited edition copy of the new record through April 30th by signing up for the Third Man Record’s Vault. The special edition copy comes stocked with a blue-and-white vinyl pressing, a 7-inch featuring demo cuts of Lazaretto’s “Alone In My Home” and “Entitlement,” as well as 40-page hardcover book including lyrics, musical notation and photos.

With his other band, The Dead Weather, also due to release their new album in 2015, White also has a handful of summer festival dates scheduled, including Bonnaroo, Forecastle Festival and Governors Ball. That being said White certainly has a busy 2014 ahead of him and it has only just begun. I for one couldn’t be happier. Check out the video for “High Ball Stepper” below and rock out in style.

I love great music. I love Cause A Scene because everyone at CAS loves great music too.  As a writer for CAS and a regular reader of the site, I am often introduced to really awesome music and sometimes I get to talk with the cool people who make it.  One of the latest of these greats is the band Joseph, an Oregon-bred and Oregon-based band of sisters with “honest words and genetically perfected harmonies.”

Drawing inspiration from their lives and being on the road, sisters Natalie, Allison, and Meegan write their songs with the goal to be as true and real as possible.  “We try to sing about stuff that feels true, and usually the truest things- the things you feel in your guts- are the things other people are feeling too.”  Natalie also shared with me that the stories of the people they have met on the road lend a great deal of inspiration as well.  “It’s been crazy to realize how human longing and hope is the same throughout.”

I am so excited to share with fellow CAS readers the beauty that is Joseph and their music.  If I were to give you any sort of comparison, I would say that Joseph is for fans of The Lone Bellow and First Aid Kit, but honestly, this group is just for fans of really good, honest music. If that’s the kind of thing you’re into, go ahead over and follow them on Instagram (it’s their favorite) @thebandjoseph and then to iTunes and download their album Native Dreamer Kin (it will be your favorite).
