CAS May 19 - Judah and the Lion

Come join us tomorrow night back at 5008 Longstreet Dr. for house show that is sure to ring in the oncoming summer season. Headlining the evening is Nahville-based folk trio, Judah & the Lion and their band. Fresh off the heels of the release of their second EP, Sweet Tennessee, singer Judah Akers, banjo player Nate Zuercher and mandolinist Brian Macdonald are quickly making waves among the americana-folk scene, only having formed the band in December of 2011. With a blend of roots-based folk instrumentals and raw and grounded lyricism, Judah & the Lion aim to provide honest and relatable music for all who care to listen.

Adding to the fun, we are privileged to bring you two cross-country acts, who are garnering big buzz nationwide. SHEL are a folk-pop quartet from Fort Collins, CO comprised of sisters Sarah, Hannah, Evan and Liza Holbrook. Having just released their first full length album, self-titled SHEL in 2012, the Holbrook sisters are no strangers to Nashville, having played Music City Roots and other local venues. From even further west comes California transplant and singer-songwriter Tyler Lyle. Originally form Atlanta, GA, Lyle possesses a folk-pop sound reminiscent of the south. Tyler comes to Nashville on the heels of the release his Expatriates EP, his follow up 2012 full length album, Golden Age & Silver Girl. Tickets for Sunday’s show can be purchased here for $10.

Join us this upcoming Monday, back at 5008 Longstreet, for an evening to remember. Cause A Scene is proud to be hosting Austin’s The Trishas, a four-piece unit comprised of Jamie Wilson, Liz Foster, Kelley MickWee and Savannah Welch. Each of the four lend a vocal singularity that melt together to form twisting harmonies, giving nods to blues, folk and bluegrass, creating a sound and musical identity that has become a must know throughout Texas, and for beyond.

Starting out the evening on a high note, we will be privilege of hearing from fellow Nashvillian, Neal Carpenter. With a pair of such talent, Monday evening will surely be a lineup not to be missed. Tickets can be purchase here in advance for $10. Tickets will also be available for purchase at the door.

This Thursday night, Cause A Scene is privileged to team up with Studio Forty-one Fifteen in East Nashville (4115 Gallatin Ave) to bring you one of Austin, Texas’s most exciting young duos, Penny and Sparrow. The band is comprised of friends Andy Baxter and Kyle Jahnke and have been compared to the likes of Bon Iver, Mumford and Sons, and The Swell Season. One way or another, they have a transcendent, timeless quality to their music, with a pastoral, folksy vibe and lyrics with real depth throughout. We have been working to bring this band to Nashville for quite some time, and we couldn’t be anymore thrilled about Thursday night’s show.

To make the night even more exciting, we have our good friends from Afterlife Parade (check out their Kickstarter) and Jackson, MS-based Oh, Jeremiah opening the show with plenty of surprises up their sleeves. Please join us for this intimate house show in East Nashville. Capacity is capped at 60 people, and we fully anticipate a sellout. Tickets for Thursday night’s show can be purchased here for $5 in advance and $8 on the day of the show.

Liz Longley

One of the supreme joys of leading the Cause A Scene family is watching artists that I get the chance to work with gain a bigger and bigger audience as people slowly but surely catch on to the secret we’ve known all along. There is something uniquely special about the process of discovering an artist for the first time as any music lover can attest. It’s an even more surreal feeling to see that artist’s career blossom and take on a fuller form, and for the world to recognize the beauty of that person or band’s artwork. This is especially true of next Tuesday’s house show performer, Liz Longley. Since last summer we have been emailing back and forth trying to find a time that made sense for both parties to host Liz for a Cause A Scene house show, with the eagerness to have her play a show increasing more and more with each accolade that comes her way.

This past week, Liz was featured on Billboard, where she played a couple new songs off her forthcoming self-titled album and discussed her benefit show for the families effected by the Boston Marathon bombings. We’ve mentioned Liz many times in the past in conversations about her being “one to watch”, and it appears that some of the biggest artists in the genre agree, with John Mayer calling Liz’s music “Gorgeous. Simply gorgeous” and Amos Lee, Nanci Griffith and Shawn Colvin having Liz join them on tour.

A week from tonight, April 30, we welcome Liz back to her adoptive home of Nashville for a show that is sure to excite fans, both new and old, and will be looked back on years from now as one of those “remember when…” moments in time as we reflect on Liz’s rapidly rising star. As if seeing Liz play in a house show setting wasn’t enough, we also have the showstopping, soulful Jeffrey James performing and Seattle’s Carson Henley making his first ever Nashville appearance. You don’t want to miss this one!

Tickets can be purchased in advance here, which we recommend doing as we anticipate a sellout. See you next Tuesday!
